Q. I just purchased my Mali today from a girl who has had him for a year. She has kept him in a plastic 90.8 litre tub. He has two basking hide away rocks both I placed on opposite sides of the tub. In the middle he has a flat rock. The lighting he has is a ceramic bulb holder with only a 75 w bulb. He has in the middle a UVB light. I know the bulb as far as the heat needs to be higher. I am going to purchase a 150 w bulb. I don’t know how long to run either of the two. I've got a lot of different material. I am thinking I need the basking light for day and the UVB for 12 hours and turn them both off at night and use a red or moonlight bulb. Can you help me out and what size terrarium should I get? Is what he’s in ok? What size gallon aquarium could he be in? I am having a hard time in my area finding terrariums. I can't put hundreds into it right now. Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon. A. I would suggest a total change round as the temps that you need from the ceramic will probably melt the plastic 90.8 l tub. I have enclosed what you will need to keep a Uromastyx properly. Vivarium: 35” vivarium for one but 48” is better Heating: Lighting I recommend a basking/UV lamp similar to Exo Terra Solar Glo Sun lamp 125Watt. This is left on 10-12 hours and simply turned off via a time switch. They do not require any heating at night as long as it does not o bellow 65deg. F. You are after daytime basking temperatures of 130-150 deg F at the basking spot and an ambient temperature of 70-75 deg F. Substrate: youngsters up to 1 year kitchen, wall, backing or newspaper. Calci sand, desert sand or Aspen. Décor: large food bowl. Plenty of Caves and hides terra cotta drain pipes they love especially the ones with a 90deg., bend in Blank one end off and then raise the open end on a rock at the cool end and put some straw in it as bedding. Rocks, drift and bogwood. We have further care sheet at http://www.valueaquatics.co.uk/admin/care_sheet.php?mode=edit&id=14&page=1
